It is thanks to Mykola and Fedor Artemovich, as well as their children Ivan, Oleksandr, Varvara, and Olga, that Kyiv now has collections of state museums: T. G. Shevchenko, Ukrainian fine art, Western and Eastern art.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe charitable activities of the family during the First World War were significant. Already in 1914, Mykhailo Tereshchenko opened and maintained a 300-bed infirmary with his own funds. Soon, other family members opened several more infirmaries and founded an asylum and a shoe workshop for the disabled lower ranks. Mykola Tereshchenko financially supported the First Commercial School, the Polytechnic Institute, the Kyiv-Podilskyi Women's Gymnasium, the City Museum of Antiquities and Art, and the Pirogov Hospital. It was thanks to the patron Tereshchenko that “OKHMATDYT” appeared in Kyiv.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMercy and charity became the family motto.
