On December 16, 1865, the Odessa Railway, connecting Odessa and Balta, was officially opened.

The Haivoron narrow-gauge railway is the longest narrow-gauge railway in Europe with a track width of 750 mm, passing through the Vinnytsia and Kirovohrad regions. Its route runs from Rudnytsia to Holovansk and has a total length of about 130 km. It remains one of the few operating narrow-gauge railways in Ukraine.
