25 years ago, the first and only visit of Pope John Paul II to Ukraine took place.

The journey lasted from June 23 to 27, 2001. The Pontiff's liturgies in Kyiv and Lviv gathered more than 2 million Ukrainians.

The Pope knelt at Askold's Tomb, where he honored the memory of the first Kyiv Christian prince. He also laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the Hill of Glory, at the Memorials to the victims in Bykivna and in Babyn Yar. In total, during his visit to Ukraine, he delivered 11 sermons and speeches in Ukrainian💙💛
