In 1960, the Kyiv metro was opened. The first line had five stations: from Vokzalna to Dnipro. Since then, the Kyiv metro has been rapidly expanding.

In the summer of 1972, the billionth passenger was celebrated at Arsenalna station, who was awarded a free annual travel ticket.

Currently, the capital's metro has three lines, with a total length of 69.648 km, 52 stations and three underground interchanges.

The postal block issued for the 50th anniversary of the Kyiv metro consists of four stamps: "Lukyanivska metro station", "Dorohozhychi metro station", "Metro construction", "Modern metro train".
