The KRAKEN Special Forces is a separate reconnaissance and sabotage unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The special unit was formed by veterans of the Azov regiment, DIU officers, ultras and volunteers in March 2022 in Kharkiv. The unit consists of 5 battalions and has the strength of a regiment. From March to October 2022, inclusive, the Kharkiv region was liberated with the participation of the Kraken special forces: Vilkhivka, Lesne, Ruska Lozova, Pytomnyk, Bilohorivka (Luhansk region), Verbivka, Balakliya, Borodoyarske, Morozivka, Sovyntsi, Dovhalivka, the left bank part of Kupyansk, Podoly, Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi, Kivsharivka, Novoosynove, Hlushkivka, Kolysnykivka, Kyslivka, Kotlyarivka. The unit also took part in the battles for Kharkiv, Dementiivka, Staryi Saltiv, Hrakovo, Zaliznychne, Kutuzivka, and Velyki Prokhody.

In January 2023, it took part in the battles near Soledar in the Donetsk region, and in March - in Bakhmut. In May 2024, the special unit took part in the Battle of Chasiv Yar.
