The first radio and telegraph laboratory was opened in Kyiv by S. Eisenstein in 1905. The first radio station was built in Mykolaiv in 1914. Radio broadcasting in Ukraine after the Soviet-Ukrainian war began in 1924. On November 16 at 19:00 in Kharkiv, the then capital of the Ukrainian SSR, the first national radio program was broadcast using a low-powered transmitter.

In 1925, more powerful radio stations were built in Kharkiv and Kyiv, and in 1927 in Dnipropetrovs'k, Donetsk, Odesa, and other cities. The first radio network in Ukraine appeared in 1928.
