On September 29, 1926, the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra—one of Ukraine’s most significant sacred sites—was designated a State Historical and Cultural Reserve. This decision was made to preserve the architectural complex of this ancient Orthodox monastery (first mentioned in 1051), as well as its artistic, historical, and cultural heritage.
Today, the Reserve spans approximately 27 hectares and encompasses 140 architectural monuments dating from the 11th to the 20th centuries, along with two cave complexes. Its museum collections comprise around 73,000 items. In 1990, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, together with Saint Sophia Cathedral, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List; in 1996, the Reserve was granted the status of a National Reserve.
The 100th anniversary of this prominent institution has been officially included in the UNESCO Calendar of Anniversaries for 2026–2027, underscoring the site’s global significance. Over the past century, Ukrainian museum professionals, archaeologists, and conservators have safeguarded the Lavra against destruction, totalitarian pressure, and attempts to alienate it from its own history. The postal issue "National Reserve 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra': 100 Years" is dedicated to this sacred site—a symbol of spiritual revival, the de-occupation of the Ukrainian cultural landscape, and the enduring resilience of national symbols passed down to future generations.
The postal set offered includes:
