Postal set “On the Day of Dignity and Freedom“ (sheet, envelope) 2025

On the Day of Dignity and Freedom, Ukrposhta presents a postal issue featuring works by artist Dmytro Kryshovsky: “Trident” – the national symbol of Ukraine, and “Russian warship, go f**k yourself” – a unique artistic artifact of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The trident has a thousand-year history. In ancient times, it was the symbol of the Rurik dynasty, the rulers of Rus. During the Ukrainian People's Republic, it was adopted as the national emblem of Ukraine, 

emphasizing continuity with previous periods of Ukrainian history. In the 20th century, the trident became a symbol of the Ukrainian struggle for independence. The Soviet totalitarian system branded it as a “nationalist symbol.” The use of the trident in the USSR was severely punished.

By restoring independence in 1991 and choosing the trident as the state emblem, Ukraine demonstrated its adherence to the traditions of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Russian aggression in Crimea and eastern Ukraine began with the destruction of the trident as a marker of Ukrainian identity. Today, the trident unites Ukrainian patriots who defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
