The Kyiv Funicular, one of the oldest in Eastern Europe, was opened on May 7, 1905. It connected the historic part of Kyiv, the Upper Town (Volodymyrska Hill), with Podil.

The length of the funicular route is 222 meters, and the height difference between the lower and upper stations is about 75 meters. The funicular is driven by steel cables and an electric motor; it has two cars that move simultaneously, opposing each other: when one car goes up, the other goes down.

The Kyiv funicular is not only a convenient means of transportation, but also an important tourist attraction due to the picturesque views of Podil, the left bank of the city, and the Dnipro River that open up during the ride.
