Imagine you are sitting in your safe country in front of the TV screen, and the faces of people depicted on the helmet are rushing at you. You have to look them in the eyes. And you have to admit that they were killed. And now you can't escape from this. They are already in your reality. You will remember them. They are “in our heads” — in our memory. And now they are in yours too — this is my morning conversation with my child.

I explained to her the idea of honoring their memory and forcing “sports outside of politics” to at least acknowledge reality.

To acknowledge reality, to call things by their names, to hold your gaze, to be close to death and war, to acknowledge your own role — support, help, or even your helplessness — is a sign of strength, maturity, and dignity.
