In 2026, Shakhtar Donetsk—one of Ukraine’s most beloved football clubs—marks its 90th anniversary.
The club’s history is defined by resilience, steadfastness, and an indomitable spirit. Shakhtar won the UEFA Cup in 2009 and shares the top spot among Ukraine’s most decorated clubs of the independence era, boasting 16 league titles, 15 Ukrainian Cup victories, and 9 Ukrainian Super Cup wins.
Until 2014, FC Shakhtar played its home matches at the Donbas Arena. Due to the Russo-Ukrainian War and the temporary occupation of Donetsk, the club has been forced to play away from home.
The issue’s envelope features the photograph "Shakhtar Plays" (Donetsk, 1967) by Lev Azriel. This image has become an iconic symbol of the public's love for the club, capturing fans watching a match from a spoil tip—known as the "fifth stand"—which has become a symbol of support for the team and a unifying force across generations.
The booklet includes the "FC Shakhtar (Donetsk): 90 Years of Unbroken History" stamp sheet and a "First Day" cover with a special cancellation mark. A description of the issue in both Ukrainian and English appears on the back of the booklet.
